Colin F. Jones

Defend yourself at all times, or advance and weep,
Stand in the sunshine or in the shadows creep.
Do we knock them down, so we can pick them up,
Or to wallow in self glory; drink from the blood filled cup?
For the elephant to survive the feeble mouse must perish,
The water holes denied to whom sweet waters cherish.
The strong steel hand of power, lubricated with oil
Must sacrifice its own to gather up more soil,
That it swallows its own tail as it surges around the earth,
Returning in death, to the place of its birth.
And honour will not save what pride will betray,
As night overwhelms what was the light of day.
And the cannon that fires that the cannon be quelled,
Will be the cannon that its own survival repelled.
