That confraternity of men intimate wrath has blended,
Is a brotherhood of warriors through the world extended,
With a common understanding gained from the enmity of war,
From what they felt, what they did; and what most of them saw.
No subservient genuflection by those dear ones, who prayed,
Dismantled the horror that their conflicts displayed,
Nor subdued the agony of a shattered comrades cruel dying,
For they hear their brothers in their hearts still crying.
From this, and from duty; from devotion and fear,
They share values so deep; to most others unclear.
The chain never breaks for when one link rusts away,
His spirit remains for it will never decay,
So long as the warrior is blooded in war,
And discovers his brother is what he is fighting for.
