Better soldiers are those better armed,
For fighting skills are shared by Warriors all,
None by experience are by fear alarmed,
And those with frailer swords do mostly fall.
All nations claim their well trained soldiers brave,
And like to think they are the very best,
Yet though they do with patriotism crave,
On equal terms they never meet the test.
Most soldiers are but men seen on the street,
Who take up arms to meet their nation’s call,
None violent men humble and discreet,
Men who have no hate to claim at all.
But they all fight and kill and wound and sin,
Though none who go to war can ever win.
