BECAUSE

They died because they were killed,
We live because we were not,
Whatever it was that was fulfilled,
We are left with what we’ve got.
One does not die ‘for’ anything,
We die because our time is due,
Though resplendent bells do ring,
It changes nothing that is true.
Death has no particular glory,
The wasted seed is soon replaced;
The past is our true story,
For what we are is what we’ve faced.
We are all simply earthlings…
Part of a planet we’ve defaced.
