Cling thee then to all that’s sad in life,
Retain those things which match a morbid view,
Discard all goodness joy and keep all strife,
Intensely simmering there inside of you.
Look how the young do copy what you say,
Turning inward as their heroes do,
Leading them in an unrewarding way,
Where hopelessness is all they offer you.
Awake young soldiers from the Veterans’ dreams,
For in their thoughts lives an ancient foe,
Who clothe their hearts with resounding screams,
And they wish not till death to let them go.
Inspired by this, young soldiers go thy way,
And collect your demons lest they all decay.
