AS OTHERS DO, AND I

I was a soldier and I went off to war,
That is what I was there training for.
It mattered not where I was to go,
It was my duty to fight all and any foe.
I swore an oath to go where I was sent,
To do my job, to fight and represent
Those who paid me to defend and kill;
Those who trained me in this awesome skill.
I was a Warrior it was my own decision to be,
My chosen field of expertise you see…
I did it well and though I suffer ill,
I have no regrets and I never will,
For ‘tis better, in my mind, in war to die,
Than to live in pain as others do, and I.
