AN OLD SOLDIER

Who was I when I was not me,
When I could run and I could see,
When all I longed for was sweet love,
Embellished by a God above
Who was I then when full of smiles,
When I could run for many miles,
When I thought naught of war and strife,
And lived a joy filled happy life.
Who was I, well I do not know,
For it was now so long ago,
And I am not that fun filled lad,
I’m just a soldier old and sad.
For love I feel not any more…
Just the painful memories of war.
