A PLEDGE

I do not pray, for payers save not a soul
But with all my worth that makes my body whole,
I humbly pledge my loyalty to God
Who gave me strength to grow food from the sod;
Who gave me trust; the will to serve my friends;
To cope with change and all life’s diverse trends;
To stand and fight against the evil foe;
To quell the rot that inside our lands might grow.
For from within, doth come the greatest threat,
That which destroys without the least regret.
Let not the sadness war brings to our hearts
Give fuel to evil that with it unrest starts
That we question what has made us great
For it will lead us to a sadder fate.
