Jean S. James

God bless the soldier in harm’s way
Give him protection every day
When he’s in trenches please go down
Spread your protection all around
Send your angels, place your shield
Around him on the battlefield
In a hail of rapid fire
Be there with him in the mire
Send the angels to his side
To aid, to comfort, and to guide
When mortally wounded, take his hand
And lead him to the Promised Land
Where he can find unending peace
Where love and joy will never cease
Where he will never have to stand
Again in combat-hand to hand
Where now his battle weary soul
Will rest within the heavenly fold
Brave was he in the face of death
Courageous until his last breath
He fought the battle, met the foe
Now with your angels let him go
To find his mansion newly done-
And claim the victory he has won.
(God bless this brave young mother’s son)
