LEST WE FORGET

The blood-red sun sets over the land
Cloaking all its secrets in shadow
It weeps for those who live no more
Snuffed out by the mindlessness of war

Was it worth all the bloodshed?
Was it worth all the pain?
Was it worth the ultimate sacrifice?
To never see home again?

The fallen look down on their comrades
Wistfulness shines in their eyes
Their fighting days now behind them
Futureless now one and all

Was it worth all the bloodshed?
Was it worth all the pain?
Was it worth the ultimate sacrifice?
To never see home again?

Proud to fight for their country
To lay down their life every day
So that we can carry on living
Secure in the freedom they give

Was it worth all the bloodshed?
Was it worth all the pain?
Was it worth the ultimate sacrifice?
To never see home again?

Families anxiously waiting
Praying that their loved ones come home
Not knowing that they are dead and gone
Buried under the debris of war

Was it worth all the bloodshed?
Was it worth all the pain?
Was it worth the ultimate sacrifice?
To never see home again?

We must never forget our heroes
Those men and women who give their all
Who are willing to pay the ultimate price
That we may never see the horrors of war
