WHEN YOU WAVE ME

Let me know
when you wave me
let me show
so that all see.

Hold me high
in the wind today
remembering why
we sing, “Oh say…”

Where I’ve flown
in blood and love
or how I’ve grown
as a standard above.

Let all understand
not just cloth sewn
but of sinew in man
and woman gently hewn.

Thus when heard taps
that all will be allowed
while I’m put in wraps
have memories hallowed
