WALKING BLIND

Feelings are numb
motions unfelt
common sense dumb
unnaturally so dealt.

Rifle on the shoulder
combat just ahead
lifting a mighty boulder
making another dead

Heeding all commands
understanding mission
unfeeling any demands
unasking any permission.

Walking blind once more
not knowing who cares
freeing the humbled poor
giving thanks in prayers.

The powerful not looking
unmindful of even a tear
lust and pride spooking
buying up another’s fear.

Misusing freedoms gift
crying aloud with lies
no spirits more to lift
walking blind in disguise.
