Charles J. Ingerson

Out very late at night
chills in the wind felt
finding no human light
solitary figures knelt.

Not much time alone
too many emergencies
so very far from home
meeting contingencies.

Letting emotions flow
as the dew drop tears
ever radiant to glow
amid war’s worst fears.

Soldiers of visiting souls
quietly laid in soft rest
combats oft mighty tolls
having withstood the test.

Sharing the nurse’s grief
hallowed moments known
caring for those so brief
in reverence now shown.
