VELVET

Elegantly dressed
a tiara to adorn
so very blessed
in freedom born.

Education learned
skills to lovingly heal
diseases discerned
empathy to now feel.

Velvet slippers placed
upon feet to protect
delicately ever laced
beauty to inspect.

How far away known
moments of despair
anger and fear shown
even now more aware.

Camouflage and sweat
boots in place found
never a single regret
even in horrors sound.

Angels of a better sort
where diseases a few
hearing weapons retort
and wounded men view.

Velvet hands to sooth
bandages to wind oft
bullets, shrapnel remove
with tears falling soft.
