How long ago in sleepless nights
war torn Europe slept in the rains
humane interests attracting vision
skies overcast prolonging an end
thus the dawn came ever slowly
where death would bloody all
land and sea and skies and men
women to shrivel and seek to hide
rape and pillage and yes killing
murder by some it is so told still
combat is simply that and more
the day of the beginning to end
warfare yet severely to be fought
another year and then months
prison camps, heroes and villains
who can tell but which is who
the dead no longer to be telling
and the living no longer knowing
the day of the beginning to end!
