SOMEWHERE

(Prelude:

Often times one hears
whispers in the silences
then removed quickly
as if one is afraid
then hidden from all
until again venturing
peeking around a tree
((over there we hid))
and again the quiet
battlefields all the same
carnages now removed
peaceful fields found
somewhere once there
for wars are continuous
one seeking another’s
freedoms or treasures
even today if in deceit
governments v. citizens
the goals the same
some to have all power
others simply freedoms
while most ignorant
that any wars fought
enslaved to their wants
regardless of the costs!)

Somewhere

Investing all of our history
complete in all our past
still we have our veterans
those who strive to protect
to care for the needy, lonely
being the Don Quiote today
somewhere there is a one
your veteran and ours
serving with pride always
doing their duty always
even if we don’t know
where their somewhere is
it is where they’re needed
serving freedom’s cause!

Quickly Quiet Now!

Hallowed ground we walk
good men/women perished
legends long ago of truths
valiant in their struggles
seeking to preserve rights
evil determined to remove
yet here the righteous won
only having to fight again
for evil makes broken laws
treaties without merit
regrouping to steal again
the goodness of the valiant!

On This Field

Great armies came close
with weapons of warfare
seemingly indifferent to all
clashing amid the chaos
as if in a dance of drums
shouts, screams, explosions
as if Wagner were present
conduction beyond skill
determined and shrill
on this field found today
echo’s over and over
a confusion of sounds
where all died in part
some here today to do
others in their minds
changing feelings numb
with weapons of warfare
came close great armies!

Deathly Silence

Deep beneath the ceiling
agonizing silence within
fearing any slight sound
hearing the props above
searching for the needle
then rapid loud the pings
soon the rains of death
charges exploding close
while in deathly silence
awaiting their presence
sailors in prayers quiet
hoping the external noise
soon to go away without
while barely breathing
close to the ocean floor!

Far Above

Endless hours of flying high
bombing runs or protection
sometimes air and sea rescue
others into hostile fire for same
unarmed or armed to the teeth
takeoffs and landings to make
storms, high winds or seas
warfare does not wait for calm
fending off attacks from the air
other times from anti-aircraft
flax all around and then none
far above service somewhere
fixed wing, rotor or other
missions to be flown today
as in the past and in future
serving to protect freedoms
knowing why and how!

Each Veteran a Warrior

Each veteran a warrior
serving willing to give all
hoping this not the case
understanding their role
combat support or combat
each essential to mission
preserving freedoms
few seeking recognitions
most doing their duty
knowing if done correct
all will be accomplished
all will be able to go home
freedoms ensured for all
a veteran is a warrior!

Somewhere (Part 2)

Remembering on Veteran’s Day
Found many of us still to pray;

Hearing ‘taps’ given to honor all
Those who always heard the call;

Turning out in formations strong
Seeking to correct evil’s wrong;

Neither time nor place to know
Yet this is freedom’s show;

Leaving home and family love
Serving Father’s cause above;

Somewhere each to remember
Now in our nation’s December!

Wherever one served
whichever branch known
each a Veteran beloved
for having served valiant
means to have given true
preserving a nation free;

Unworried who deserved
of those in evil grown
but for a nation loved
their duty being gallant
a bigger scene to view
allowing other too to see!)
