Charles J. Ingerson

Barriers erected firm
so few even to see
emotions made stern
this ride is isn’t free

Banners once to wave
marching bands to play
shelters sought in a cave;
dragons, so many to slay

None to let in for now
doors shut and bolted
too easy to ask just how
privacy forever jolted

One at a time to feel
intertwined within deep
sweltering wounds heal
slowly ever to weep

Knocking and rancor
blindly trying to enter
not knowing the score
scabs still so tender
