NO MORE BRIDGES

I’m sorry not enough
couldn’t get there
made it extra tough
your breath to share.

The woods traversed
the mountains climbed
ravines were cursed
roads were mined.

Got to the rivers
saw you over there
ice flows and slivers
all I could do was stare.

Wanted to swim across
currents just too swift
my wits were at loss
you I couldn’t lift.

No more bridges left
all blown to hell
now blind and deaf
no one tolls the bell.

Sobbing and shaking
uncomforted and alone
each dawn awaking
no way I could atone.
