Charles J. Ingerson

Land of the free
home of the betrayed
only if all could see
the course now flayed.

All up in arms
blood so spilt
some with charms
making a nation split.

How many the brave
how many a Tory
how many to enslave
how abused history.

Shaken the tree
giving victory away
some to be free
how dearly all pay

Remembered the lost
who fought and fell
terrible the cost
broken in life’s shell.

Absorbing the blood
lead enters deep in
awful is hell’s flood
when traitors within.

Armed Forces Day
some seek the last
of freedom’s short stay
from honor in the past.

May we draw together
in tribute to remember
wherever the free gather
before the next surrender
