John S. Garrison
After taking an English Literature class in his junior year of high school, John started writing poetry. Like most people who write, John started thinking about and formulating the lines to both poems over a long period of time. He actually wrote “1000 Meter Stare” in 1995 but had started putting it together in his mind in 1968. The same is true with “Jungle Sunlight” which he wrote it in 1999.
Born and raised in Southern California, John grew up on a small farm and joined the army right out of high school in 1966. He went to basic at Fort Ord, Infantry AIT at Fort Gordon and Airborne school at Fort Benning. He was sent to Vietnam in spring 1967 and served with the First Air Cavalry, returning home in spring of 1968.
John has two sons, one of who has completed 3 years with the 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg. He is single and, with his sons, enjoys frequent fishing trips to Baja California. Mexico.
