Judith L. Floyd
who has ever looked upon the sea
and saw just where it ends?
not thinking that it still goes on
where the horizon meets a bend
an optical illusion we visualize at night
when lights of ships along the edge
drop slowly from our sight
and what astronomer with optics strong
has not gazed upon the sky
and wondered if the blackness ends
beyond the peering eye?
so if our human bodies fail
as one day they will do
does one wonder if the soul inside
will one day fail us too?
or do we believe beyond the sky
beyond the endless sea
the body stays the soul goes on
