WOUNDS – THE BATTLE FOR HUE

Bernie “Doc” Duff: Wounds - The Battle for Hue

WOUNDS

Images that will not die
of a place where time stood still,
a proud city brought to ruin
at a cost of life and will.
Blood and sweat I’ll not forget,
voices from the ground,
hindering a lonely search
for a peace that can’t be found.

Artist’s Note: This painting was done for a friend of mine, Cpl. James L. Bobeldyk, who was wounded in Quang Nam Province, which is located just North of Hue, on October 28, 1968. Jim served as a mortar man (81 mm) with H&S Co., 1st Bn 5th Marines (1st Marine Division). He wrote the above poem to accompany this painting.
