Artist’s Note: “Building Blocks” is the painting that will be going to Chu Lai, VN sometime soon to be hung in The Sharon Lane Clinic. It is another painting of Sharon Lane and represents three places in time. Sharon Lane represents the Past. She is standing in the entryway to the Sharon Lane Clinic, Chu Lai, VN, (the city where she once worked as a US Army Nurse and also where she gave her life in June 1969). This clinic represents the Present and the three young girls she is wrapping her arms around represent the future. Another symbolic reference is that the girls are adorned in shirts colored red, white and blue. It is my fervent hope that one day soon these two Countries can restore normal relations and work together to heal the wounds of our past.
