FACES

Their faces remain so clear,
Those men we once held dear,
Their features still on our minds,
And expressions still fixed in time.

But their names we can’t recall,
Those faces without names at all,

We’ll revere their bravest deed,
Our memories now turned to seed.
They once fought by our side,
All now gone, each long since died,

And their names we can’t recall,
Those faces without names at all,

And gone they are to a better place,
Where never a day is done in haste.
They’ll take up man’s arms no more,
Their battles… all now but lore,

And their names we can’t recall,
Those faces without names at all,

They gave all their best for you and me,
Their young hearts remain ‘cross that sea.
Their loves and kin will ne’er forget,
With them their faces live on yet.

But their names we can’t recall,
Those faces without names at all,
