Melanie C. Campos ~ MahTame

It all started with a poem
Dedicated to a Vet of ‘Nam
Listened to his story of then
What the war was back when

Meeting others along the way
Reading their words; e’en today
A warrior first he had to show
All the things taught ‘n still know

An understanding took place
Didn’t need to see their face
A pulling of heartstrings riveted
Realizing how their lives pivoted

One day they may tell you more
Of the horrific sounds of gore
When their comrades died there
How they felt the hell everywhere

And if their conversations won’t say
What it was like in that war, today
Know when you see that distant stare
Too much is going on in his mind there
