This war had changed us all
Almost no one was the same
We had little to celebrate
So we took solace in killing
Seldom would you see emotion
We lost a few guys and we’d say
“Well that sucks but it’s war.”

All that changed October 14
That was a dark day in Kirkuk
The night before a lieutenant
Had received transfer orders
The orders were a surprise
We wanted them deleted
But they were signed by God.
