FAREWELL

I watched it sparkle

The diamond inside
really cubic zirconia

The band white gold
the fit was just right

I wore every day
until I felt no more

the love that it meant
when he walked out

I walked to a bridge
the water did shine
I watched the ring
as it started to slide

through my fingers
it made its descent
it fell in the water

never to be seen again

I remember the place
I remember the time

I watched that diamond sparkle
until the love died

Author’s Note: 8 years ago, I was engaged, and 8 years ago, he walked away, fortunately for me, for the better….
