AWAKENING
Turning toward the window
there are slits of light
slithering through the
forgiving blinds of morning
a new day’s way of taking charge
stating its agenda and
directions for my compliance
without a word of
objection or debate.
After rotating the body
my fully opened eyes absorb
the opposite wall bleeding
of dull framed prints
reflecting neutered nature
scenes faintly competing
with the bright vibrant
world just outside
where warm sunshine
will dry all tears of the night.
The ceiling an alternate setting
is a blank screen
for projecting activity and
its rewards of the day
a slate upon which I may
write determined choices
filled with favorites including
the few hours I need to share
with a singular being
and our fresh pleasures.
