THE NIGHTMARE
It was a time of woe,
a time of great despair.
Our country chose to help,
and so I wound up there.
A place they called Viet Nam,
so very far away.
Not like the place I left back home,
where I could run and play.
The stench, the filth, the mud, the bugs,
were more than I could bear,
but nothing could prepare me for
the blood and guts out there.
One by one, we watched our friends,
fall slowly to the ground.
All that we could hope for,
was the choppers come around.
We looked for guidance from above,
to help us through the night.
We asked our God's to put an end
to this awful fight.
