ONCE A SOLDIER, ALWAYS A SOLDIER
My heart is breaking in two
For our Veterans of Foreign Wars.
They know what our Children are facing
Because they’ve lived through this before.
If our Veterans could keep one child
From going so far away
They’d proudly wear their uniforms
And leave for foreign shores today.
If our Veterans could spare one child
From visions of unspeakable horror
They’d march with guns in unison
And relive the hell of war.
If our Veterans could save one child
From a Brother dying in their arms
They’d make the ultimate sacrifice
To protect our Children from harm.
Our Veterans want to fight this war
So our Children will be home and safe;
But this is not the era for them
And they cannot take their place.
But once a Soldier, always a Soldier;
Protecting the home front our Veterans serve
As they stand behind the Children we love
And give them the “Welcome Home” they deserve.
