Martin “Marty” Boyce

POSITION 9, ROW B, WALL 28

L.A. Furnell, service number
N-2-6-8-0-6-8
the latest remembered on stark marble walls
a RAAF bloke beside as his mate

The most recent addition in memory
Position 9, row B, wall 28
of 36th Battalion: a veteran of war
A Pambula man, records state

The battalions you stand with are silent
Each one waiting to welcome a mate
with old soldiers still dying from battles long past
it wont take long for another brass plate

Unadorned marble walls stand foreboding
each testimony to wars we all hate
young soldiers and old will start taking their place
at position 10, row B, wall 28

Author’s Note: As a follow up to "The Final Parade", I went back to the Wall of Remembrance at the Woden Cemetery in the ACT (Australian Capital Territory) and took down the details of the last plaque to be placed on the marble walls.
