THE KING OF DECEMBER
The King of December
is unlike his kin
He waits till the ending
and then he’ll begin
to dazzle his public
with joy and with mirth
He sends in a snowstorm
announces the birth
Of Saviors from Virgins
of lights that stay lit
He brings it to Broadway
and hit after hit
the King of December
knows just how to act
he fills us with legends
and swears it’s a fact
that Christmas is coming
we better be good
and if we are Jewish
we’ll do as we should
so we can go shopping
for eight days or more
and wish season’s greetings
to those we adore
The King of December
So easy to please
Just chop down a big one
and dress up the trees
In Radio City
The cameras go click
and once again families
discover the kick
Of Rockettes on Broadway
Long limbs all aglow
The buzz of the children
as they want to know
If the King of December
is fake or is real???
and how Kids are answered
may give or may steal
The rest of Season and go on
for the years
So pay close attention
to those younger ears
for what they are hearing
will shape who they are
so build a foundation
and not a toy car
The King of December
has found a new Queen
Yes – Kwanza is coming
There’s just so much green
and red, one can handle
the blue and the white
the Afros have joined us
and that just seems right
to welcome the colors
of all of the earth
The King of December
bows down to rebirth
Of snowmen and woman
who melt into years
The King of December
will replace your fears
with visions of New Times
as his days waft through
A new year is coming
Yes January’s due
And this is the moment
for brotherly love
your sisters are calling
from here and above
For this is our moment
to find out what’s true
The King of December
Is inside of you.
