MY KITTENS ARE GROWING

Robin Amy Bass: My Kittens Are Growing
My kittens are restless
They scratch at the door
They’ve eaten their breakfast
But now they want more
They stare at the doorknob
With wide open eyes
All 3 seem to think
That beyond the door lies

A world filled with promise,
Adventure and hope
My kittens are fearless
They think they can cope
With windows left open
And neighbors that shriek
Especially dear Fatty
He lets out a squeak

He paws at that the doorstop
Then Purr-C chimes in
While Jazzpurr is sneaky
He head butts my chin
My kittens are hopeful
They think there’s a chance
That after my breakfast
I’ll teach them to dance

Especially dear Purr-C
He jumps in my lap
He nuzzles my ear lobe
His paw starts to tap
He spells out a message
That says I C U
While Jazzpurr plays the decoy
He’s in on this too

Poor Fatty is shameless
He’s hatching a plan
He pilfers my muffins
No raisin’s – just bran

He doesn’t like coffee
Unless it has cream
My kittens grow sleepy
They like to daydream
Of yards birds and flowers
Small bushes – tall trees
On Tuesdays and Friday’s
They do as they please

My kittens are happy
With all they behold
They’re hoping to teach me
To do as I’m told
On Mondays and Thursdays
I try to behave
For Jazzpurr’s turned Master
And I am his slave

My kittens are growing
Their fur starts to shed
Burnt Orange in winter
That springs into red
They pounce on my sofa
Explore all they can
They turn and implore me
They follow God’s plan
