LAST NIGHT
Last night I called up to see how you were
Last night you sounded just fine
Last night surprised me, and I was relieved
Last night your voice seemed to shine
You talked of all you had done in your day
You talked of who you had met
You talked of living – not wanting to die
Last night you seemed to forget
About your boundaries, your baggage, and weight
Last night – the war went away
Last night – your voice filled with hope laced the air
Last night – I prayed that today
When you awake, it will be with a smile
Last night, I pray that you dreamt
Of my caresses, and where we can go
I pray our time will be spent,
Laughing and trusting the love that we share
Only grows stronger each day
Last night, I listened, while you went ahead
Paving your path for our way
