Joel T. Bailey

Joel at the gravesite of his Great Grandfather, Private John W. Bailey: June 8, 1844 – October 25, 1918THE REBEL SOLDIER
In his uniform of ragged grey
He survived another battle today
The sights and sounds run thru his head
The cries of wounded and so many dead
He hurts inside for the friends he lost
Both sides paid a very high cost
He wonders if this war will ever end
And will he ever see his home again
He thinks of his folks so far away
And the wife he left on their wedding day
He bows his head in silent prayer
And puts his life in the Lords care
With tears in his eyes he drifts off to sleep
Old enough to die but young enough to weep
