SHADOWS OF THE MIND

We catch a brief glimpse of them everywhere,
From the corner of our eye,
A blurring figure that isn't there
Why do the damn things hide?

A shadow that seems to move,
When we know it really can't,
Why do we see them all the time,
And by whom were they sent?

A moonlit night, a fleeting cloud,
That fills the night with fear.
The wind that blows the Willow tree,
With moans that only we can hear.

Awakened in the darkened room,
Hearts pounding in our chest,
What was it in our minds,
That won't allow us rest?

How can we hurt the ones we love,
While loving them still true,
I think it's all God's punishment,
Just for being
me
and
you.
